Job Summary
The duties of the Consultant Transport Planner/Engineer fall primarily under
the category of Technical Support- but also start to incorporate elements of
Business Development.
Key duties are as follows:
Technical Support:
Contribute to successful project completion by providing technical services in accordance with project time- quality and cost objectives as agreed with the Project Manager
Maintain- enhance and apply both design and technical knowledge
Ensure CAD protocols of drawings are correct.
Continuously improve technical and industry knowledge by participating in forums and other industry related programs
research- analyse and report on a range of quantitative and qualitative transport related projects
Assist in the preparation of tender submissions
Act as a Deputy Project Manager or Project Manager- as necessary
Develop detailed methodologies
Undertake data recording and analysis tasks
Review internal processes for effectiveness and efficiency and suggest possible areas for improvement where necessary
Other duties as required
Specific Skills Required
The candidate should have:
In-depth understanding of the underlying principles of traffic and transport planning and engineering- sufficient to carry out and support transport planning studies
Sound database / spreadsheet skills and preferably abilities in statistical / transport modelling software and the ability to handle large data sets
Working knowledge of AutoCAD- MicroStation beneficial- but not mandatory
A clear appreciation and understanding of fundamental highways engineering principles
Excellent technical writing skills
Very good Project Management skills
In-depth understanding of all aspects of AECOM`s Project Delivery System (PDS)
Very good understanding and practical use of AECOM`s APIC system
Technical skill set will include good understanding and practical use of the
following:
Highway Capacity Software (HCS)- Sidra and Synchro
In-depth knowledge of Trip and Parking Generation using locally and internationally developed rates
Local Authority (e.g. DoT- RTA- SRTA- etc.) requirements for Traffic impacts Studies and Transportation Master Plans
Knowledge of transport requirements of other peripheral agencies (e.g. civil defence- traffic police- planning departments- environmental agencies- etc.)
Interprets and applies applicable government codes- ordinances and regulations.
Initiates actions necessary to correct deficiencies or violations of regulations.
Assists with updates and maintenance of Comprehensive Plan- transportation plan and land development regulations.
Acts as a liaison between community groups- government agencies- developers and elected officials in developing neighborhood plans.
Conducts review of various development applications- including plats- permits- site plans- variance requests and rezonings.
Conducts extensive research in specific or general project areas.
Writes and presents formal and technical reports- working papers and correspondence.
Identifies community problems- issues and opportunities in particular neighborhoods that could be mitigated through better community planning.
Develops long range plans for communities with common developmental issues.
Develops strategies to promote economic and community development- or efficient land use consistent with community goals.
Evaluates adequacy of community facilities in meeting current and projected needs.
Recommends priorities- schedules and funding sources to implement public improvements plan.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience in the field of transport planning/engineering
This position requires a minimum of 2-5 years relevant experience and knowledge regarding transportation planning/engineering
Additional Comments:
The candidate should be able to travel locally within the UAE- and regionally to neighbouring countries
Arabic language skills (reading- writing- and spoken) are an asset
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors Degree Level Qualification or higher in a related field (mandatory)
Masters Degree (beneficial)
