This is an opportunity for an experienced specification writer or
architectural technician to join the Middle East Specification Consultancy
team in Abu Dhabi- producing and delivering Architectural- Interior Design and
Landscape based specifications for both internal AECOM projects and selected
external clients- on major projects in all sectors across the Middle East.
The role requires a consultant with an Architectural and Buildings background
and familiarity with CSI based specifications- as well as having good
attention to detail- being well organised- good research skills and being
The consultant shall be based in Abu Dhabi working in a team of Architectural
MEP and Structural specification consultants- reporting to the team lead.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assisting senior consultants in the development and delivery of project
specifications for multiple projects with USD billions in construction costs-
using the bespoke AECOM web enabled data base production tool.
Liaise with Structural and MEP colleagues to identify and coordinate interface
When requested- consult with internal and external designers to establish
their project requirements.
Understand and complete all QA/QC policies and procedures to maintain the high
quality standards expected of project specifications
Work to tight project deadlines and ensure accurate and timely delivery of
Work with senior consultants to identify and implement updates and
improvements to company specification database.
Attend design meetings within and outside of the UAE- either with
specification colleagues or independently.
Follow and understand industry best practice- either directly within industry
or through internal training/ workshops for all aspects of construction that
impact on the Specification Consulting.
4+ years post-graduate experience in the construction industry.
Experience in the UAE/ Middle East is preferred.
Proactive in planning- communication and delivery of work.
Understanding of CSI and CAWS specifications and their use in the built environment.
Be able to demonstrate an understanding of design development and construction stages.
Basic understanding of contracts and contractual relationships including procurement methodology.
Confident with the ability to deal with internal and external clients- and communicate well within the specification consulting team.
Ability to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines- using excellent organisational skills and being able to prioritise- either under the guidance and instruction of senior team members or independently where required.
Technologically competent with an ability to learn new software and programs.
Basic knowledge of the building and construction industry and willingness to develop knowledge further- either independently or through internal training.
Basic understanding of architectural detailing and materials and willingness to develop knowledge further- either independently or through internal training.
Ability to use initiative and be proactive.
Ability to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility and adaptability as well as a |can do| attitude.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a high level of attention to detail and follow up; accurate typing ability in English is essential.
Professional conduct and a mature approach to all situations.
Proficient skills in Outlook- Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to work as part of a small team as well as independently
UAE Drivers License
A degree in Architecture/ Design related discipline- or a demonstration of technical knowledge in these fields.
Preferred – a qualification/certification of one of the following:
CSI`s Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) certificate.
Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA).
Certified Construction Specifier (CCS).
Certified Construction Product Representative (CCPR). .
